One of the most significant issues
facing Mrs. Masuda is that she does not understand the importance of the
matter. She must change her life style and how she thinks about it. The
reasons why these are significant problems is her condition will not be
good if Mrs. Masuda herself does not become conscious that her life style
and the way she thinks about it are bad. But it is difficult that a person
change life style and her way of thinking. So her family should co-operate.
It is a problem that Mrs. Masuda cooks a lot of her food using sweet coconut
oil or margarine, that she dislikes most vegetables, that she prefers to
eat Western-style desserts like rich cakes and ice cream and that she tries
to skip eating breakfast. These life style traits increase her risk of
breast cancer. A person who often eats fatty acid, for example sweet coconut
oil, increases the risk of breast cancer. So if she takes care of her health
she should stop using coconut oil and start using olive oil, because dealing
with diet, nutrition,and breast cancer, Walter Willete of the Harvard School
of Public Health concludes that certain kinds of fat, such as olive oil,
may actually be protective. And coconut oil has high LDL levels, that is,
it is high in "bad" cholesterol. Like coconut oil, Western-style
desserts are very fatty. So she should change her style from Western to
Japanese. And she should try to eat more vegetables because vegetables
have rich vitamins. Finally, she should keep a well-regulated life in mind,
because her irregular diet increases the risk of disease.
Here are some things I want to say to Mrs. Masuda personally. "If
you continue this bad dietary habit, there is a bigger chance of developing
cancer, because you do not eat vegetables and other protein-rich foods
common in the Japanese-style diet, and also because you prefer Western-style
food like rich cakes or ice cream, fatty food and so on. But this is bad
for your body.
"In addition to eating better foods, more Japanese food like tofu,
natto, etc., you need to think about exercise, because energy is necessary
for us to take exercise. This energy is radiated from your extra fat which
is stored in your body. So fat will burn off and cholesterol will diminish.
Still more, we can break off stress by taking exercise. Stress can be the
origin of cancer, so this becomes an important point. But the most important
and difficult thing is that you must not get impatient."
