Daisuke Terazawa writes:

Mr. Tanaka thinks that "I'm health-conscious" by himself. But we know about his life style, his daily life isn't good because of he has unbalanced diets and no regular exercise. It's also an urgent matter that he is already showing some omens of big medical problems in the future. Changes in their daily habits are needed.

His problems would be as follows.

        1. He doesn't have time to eat breakfast most morning. 2. He doesn't eat many kind of foods 3. He thinks that udon and rice contains a lot of fibers. (he thinks many mistake) 4. His LDL level is measured at 172. (too high) 5. His family has diabetes and a heart disease. 6. He is stressful.

As to 2 and 3, it would be advised that he should intake healthier and better balanced food. Concretely, he should take vegetables and lessen intake of fatty food like meat, beef, pork and fast food. He thinks their foods has good for health, but they contains many cholesterol. Though fat is one of the important sources of energy, it's not favorable to have it much by itself. More over, he thinks many mistake about food ingredient. Certainly, most Japanese food contains many fibers, but these contains many salt, sugar, and so on, too. And if he would take much vitamins, he has to take vegetables and fruits. So Japanese foods are not perfect and he must take a lot of kinds of foods. In addition that he needs minerals, too. The minerals his body needs in large amounts include calcium, chlorine, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and sulfur.

As to 4, his level of LDL (low density lipoprotein, bad cholesterol with the function of being stored in the wall of arteries and causing arteriosclerosis) is 172 and higher than a dangerous level (160). It is possible to lower LDL level by exercising and change a lifestyle. It's important to reduce his LDL level. He thinks "my exercise is enough and lifestyle is good", but I think that his daily life is too bad for his health. At least, he must to do exercise about 30 minutes per a day. It is important to continue exercise day after day. Exercising has a good effect of increasing HDL. Moreover, exercising can better the circulation of blood and be a good recreation to relax. It is common with reduce of his stressful.

As to 5, it's important point to advise to him. His parents' disease are possible to inherit with him and these symptoms was caused about his lifestyle, for eating, stressful, and exercise. So he has a risk of his health inheritance and he takes care of his lifestyle.

As to 6, as already mentioned above, he has to do a lot of exercise. His stress comes from a busy life and no exercise. Business is hard to reduce, but to increase exercise is easy. In addition, exercising can better the circulation of blood and be a good recreation to relax.

Finally, he should has breakfast every day. Breakfast is very important in terms of supplying energy to the body at the beginning of the new day and should be most well balanced in both amount and variety. Since one reason he doesn't take breakfast is that he has little time in the morning, I would like to recommend they take rice and soy soup. These foods are cooked very easily and recent "Suihanki (cooking rice machine)" is able to be cooked with a timer setting, so it won't be difficult to intake these foods in a short time.

In addition, it's true he doesn't know "the difference between carbohydrates and fats". Carbohydrates include all starches and sugars, for example, udon, rice and cola. They are the body's main source of energy. Each gram of carbohydrate provides 4 calories. Most foods contain carbohydrates. On the other hand, fats pack a lot of energy. Each gram of fat provides 9 calories and they are contained in meat, deep-fried foods. If he takes a lot of fats, he may become some disease and he has to reduce to take a lot of meats and so on.

Rapid changes are sometimes dangerous. So I would like to advise gradual changes, in both foods and exercise to conclude this analysis.
