Firstly, one problem is that Mr. Tanaka doesn't have time to eat
breakfast most mornings, and he needs to intake fast food like
hamburgers, cheeseburgers or udon at lunch and dinner, but he relies on
vitamin supplements ,hates most vegetables. In thinking about this problem,
he must have vegetables in his daily intake. His diet is such that he
eats more meat than vegetables, and also most of his nutrition comes
from meat, instead of vegetables. It's important to get nutrition
from various food. So he has to eat more vegetables. The best way to
get the vitamins and minerals he need is by eating a varied, balanced
diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Fruits and
vegetables can also be good sources of water and fibers. Water just
may be the most important nutrient. In fact, the body is more than
half water. We can live without food for several weeks, but you can go
less than a week without water. And,fiber has been shown in studies to
help reduce the rates of some forms of cancer, namely colon and breast
cancer. Certain kinds of fiber have been found to lower levels of
cholesterol in the blood. A number of foods are good sources of fiber,
including fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and whole
grains.
Secondly, one problem is that he has been feeling lots of pressure
at work lately, and most recently he finds it hard to relax even after
work, does not like to exercise. Exercising is to keep his health
condition, the way of exercising is a various of courses. For
example, Walking is one example of exercise. And he should try going
shopping, not by car, but walking or by bicycle -- and not only
shopping, but also going everywhere by walking or bicycle instead for
by car, bus and so on. He should walk or cycle for short and middle
distances.
Thirdly , one problem is that his medical records indicate a few other
issues. Both his grandfather and father have diabetes. His mother is
current ill with a critical heart condition. Mr Tanaka's LDL level is
measured at 172. An LDL cholesterol level of less than 130 is best. An
LDL level of 160 or higher means he has an increased risk for heart
disease. An HDL cholesterol level of less than 35 puts you at higher
risk for heart disease. Too much cholesterol in the blood can make its
way to the arteries, where it stays in the form of a thick, fatty
substance called plaque. The buildup of plaque narrows the arteries
and makes it increasingly difficult for blood to make its way through
them. This creates a condition called atherosclerosis. There may be no
signs or symptoms of atherosclerosis until a heart attack or stroke
occurs. In solving this problem, Cutting out cholesterol is only part
of the answer. Saturated fat also affects his cholesterol level; in
fact, it's a worse offender. He needs to keep his saturated fat intake under 10
percent of his calories each day, and he is on his way to lower
cholesterol levels. He should use the Food Guide Pyramid to help him lower his
intake of fat and cholesterol. Besides, the more physical activity he
gets, the higher his good (HDL) cholesterol levels and the lower his
bad (LDL) cholesterol levels are likely to be. Physical inactivity
leads to high LDL cholesterol levels. Apart from the third problem, what's
the real difference between carbohydrates and fats? Carbohydrates
include all starches and sugars. They are the body's main source of
energy. Each gram of carbohydrate provides 4 calories. Most foods
contain carbohydrates. And, fats pack a lot of energy. Each gram of fat
provides 9 calories. There are three kinds of fat: saturated,
monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated. Animal and dairy fats, which
remain solid at room temperature, are saturated fats.
Lastly,I want to show a course of action for Mr Tanaka. For example, eating more
fruits and vegetables and more broiled or grilled fish and skinless
chicken and less fried meats. Furthermore, dietary fiber may help
lower his cholesterol. It may also help prevent heart disease,
diabetes and certain types of cancer. He should not eat fried food
but eat non fried food such as miso soup and boiled rice for
Japanese-style meal, or bread, cereal, pasta,1 slice of bread, 1 ounce
of cereal, 1/2 cup of cooked cereal. It's much better to eat these
foods with fruits like apples, bananas, oranges or fruit juice,
because these include a lot of vitamins. Still more, he should buy a pedometer and
write down his walking distance each day in his dietary notes. Walking
is the best way to burn his body's fat and lower his blood
cholesterol. He should know his calorie consumption each day.
