Kan Toriguchi writes:
Mr. and Mrs.Mine share the following lifestyle habits. They work hard every day. So, they rarely have meals together. Monday through Saturday they usually skip breakfast or if there's time, they'll fry some food left over from the day before. When Mr M comes home late at night, both Mr and Mrs M share fast food that Mr M picks up on his way from the office -- pizza, yakitori or Chinese noodles with eggs, pork and chicken.
Mr. Mine's problem is that his lunch is usually a hamburger or fried chicken or fried fish. He has high blood pressure and occasionally experiences angina chest pains. He has no opportunity to do regular exercise and he is a heavy smoker, as well. He has low levels of HDL but his LDL level is 170.
To solve this, he must take more dietary fiber. For example, he must eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables. Because high blood pressure or heart disease are caused by high cholesterol levels, he must reduce cholesterol levels by taking plenty of dietary fiber. Furthermore, he must have more exercise -- at least 30 minutes walking per day.
Mrs. Mine's problem is that at lunch she eats a simple meal, usually a bowl of rice with some meat (usually beef or pork) and a sweet dessert, cake, cookies or ice cream. She eats her dinner alone, and very often her dinner is a combination of snack food and sandwiches -- she especially likes cheese or eggs and butter or margarine on her bread. She has both high HDL and LDL levels; her LDL is 165. She is more concerned about her appearance than her health. She cannot understand, for example, why she is 10 kilos overweight, since she eats only two meals a day. But even if she continues with her dietary pattern and her lack of exercise, she does not think she will gain more weight. Several aunts and her mother have developed complications with various cancers, including cancer of the breast. To solve this, she must change her daily food and have exercise, like Mr.Mine (as explained in the above paragraph). She needs especially to limit fatty intake of egg yolk, dairy fat, ice cream, cheese, butter, etc. that contribute to her gaining weight. Furthermore, she has to take vitamins. Antioxidant vitamins and nutrients interfere with oxidation, a process that can result in formation of carcinogens (chemicals that cause cancer). The carotenoids, which are related to vitamin A, are an example of dietary antioxidants.
The most basic problem for both of them is that they have no breakfast. We have to eat regular meals to take in enough nutrition. If we miss one meal, our body will want more nutrition and we will eat extra foods at other meals. So, they may take too much cholesterol that is the cause of coronary artery disease. Further, they have no children so, they have no opportunity for caring about daily food. If they have children, they may care about their eating habits more. And they work so hard that they hardly share free time. This increases stress for them. So, they eat so much. In the future, they should have children and not to work so hard.
They must have more free time in their daily life.
