Satomi Koyanagi writes:
Mr. and Mrs. Mine have many problems about their lifestyle habits, especially in their dietary life. The first thing is that they skip breakfast. Our brain cannot use any stored nutrition without glucose. In the morning our body lacks glucose because a long time has passed after eating dinner. So if we skip breakfast, our brain cannot work enough. And if we skip eating a regular meal, our body will try to store more fat as one way to escape from starvation. The second problem is that they eat fatty and cholesterol-rich food like beef or pork meat, sweets, hamburger or fried chicken or fried fish and so on. Fats are an important part of total nutrition, because they are the most concentrated form of total energy. But these fats tend to raise the cholesterol level in the blood. Arteries are blocked by high blood cholesterol. So it is a risk factor for heart disease and cerebral apoplexy. Their fat-rich diet causes the Mines' high LDL levels.
The third problem is their general eating habits. They eat fast food late at night. This results in indigestion of food. Fast food like pizza includes high calories and high fat. The fourth problem is that both Mr. and Mrs. Mine are lack exercise. Some daily exercise makes our body function and thus metabolism increases and high cholesterol is reduced. Now they don't do exercise so Mrs. Mine is overweight and they both have high LDL levels. And some good exercise has a good effect for stress. I think they work hard so this causes them stress. The last problem is that they don't take enough vitamins. With few exceptions, the body cannot manufacture or synthesize vitamins. So we must be supplied vitamins in the diet or in dietary supplements. Vitamins help regulate metabolism, convert fat and carbohydrates into energy, and assist in forming bone and tissue. They are essential to the normal functioning of our body. So, lack of vitamins are one of the reasons for high LDL level and being overweight. I think lack of vitamins also prevents their bodies from absorbing good nutrition like good protein from cheese or eggs, etc.
Mr. Mine's problems are as follows, except for the above-mentioned.
1. Mr. Mine has high blood pressure. This is caused by mainly high cholesterol and lack of exercise. He must do daily, moderate exercise at least 30 minutes a day. But hard exercise is not good for his health. (Hard exercise sometimes brings on sudden death, because the heart and brain blood fluid speed is faster, so our blood vessels cannot endure that pressure.) And he must reduce saturated fat, including butter and beef or pork. So he has to choose vegetable shortenings, coconut oil, and palm oil, instead of having these food from animal fats. 2. He must eat breakfast including good proteins and mineral, vitamins and glucose. Good proteins are in soy and fish like salmon, minerals in seaweed, vitamins in vegetables. I think he had better eat miso soup, including tofu and seaweed, a bowl of rice, and baked fish. 3. He must eat many vegetables, especially those with Vitamin A, B-1, B-2, B-6, D. To intake these vitamins, he should also eat liver and whole grains and milk.
Mrs. Mine's problems are as follows. 1. She must reduce her weight. Overweight causes many diseases, for example, breast cancer, diabetes or arteriosclerotic and so on. To reduce her weight, she must be informed of proper knowledge of the effects of being overweight'. 2. She has to change her dietary pattern and lack of exercise. As mentioned above, some good exercise would make her healthier and help her stop overeating, and this will also help prevent her from gaining more weight.
3. I think she is more susceptible to cancer, because several aunts and her mother have developed complications with various cancers. I think there are genetic factors which might make it more likely for her to develop cancer. So she must check her body regularly.
I advise both Mr. and Mrs. Mine to have a balanced diet and to do many of things I wrote above. To do so, they'll feel and be healthier than now. But they should be careful, since to lose weight rapidly and to do hard exercise sometimes weakens people's immune systems.
