Mr and Mrs M have some similarities and differences. In terms of similarities, they like high cholesterol foods, ice cream, fried chicken, fried fish, pork, eggs. They have high levels of LDL Mr M's LDL level is 170 . Mrs M's LDL level is 165. And they have no opportunity to do regular exercise. High cholesterol food can increase the risk of heart disease, obesity and other health problems, like breast cancer. LDL cholesterol level of less than 130 is best. But their LDL cholesterol levels are over 130. In this case, cholesterol in blood increases. LDL cholesterol is the biggest cause of thickening the walls of blood vessels. So this raises their risk of a heart attack or a stroke.
Mr M is a heavy smoker. And he has low levels of HDL. He needs to stop
smoking, because smoking can increase the risk of lung cancer. Lung cancer is the biggest single cause of cancer deaths in men. In addition, smoking is the world's largest single preventable cause of illness and death. In terms of HDL cholesterol, this is good because, it reduces LDL cholesterol. But in Mr M's case, his level of HDL is low . Also he has high levels of LDL. So he needs to decrease intake of high cholesterol foods.
Mrs M also has a high level of HDL. And she is over weight. women in her family are thin, but they have developed complications with various cancers, including cancer of the breast. She likes solid oil from vegetables such as margarine. This contains trans fatty acids. Trans fatty acids are a risk factor of breast cancer, as they make free radicals in the human body. Free radicals hurt DNA base pair arrangement. Breast cancer is the main cause of cancer deaths among women.
Mr and Mrs M need to take notice of their bad lifestyle, and to have well balanced meals three times a day. If they don't do that, they increase the risk of heart disease and cancer. To do that they have to include lower cholesterol foods, for example, fruits and vegetables, fish and skinless chicken and less fried meats; they also have to have fiber rich foods to reduce cholesterol levels and to lose weight. A low fat diet may provide some preventive effects against breast cancer and help prevent cancer and other disease, perhaps by strengthening the immune system. In addition, Mr and Mrs M should do more suitable exercise.
