Mr. and Mrs. Mine work from Monday to Saturday. They usually skip breakfast or if there is time they will fry some food left over from the day before. Mr. M comes home late at night. They eat fast food, for example, pizza, yakitori or chinese noodle with eggs and pork and chicken that Mr. picks upon his way from the office.
Mr. M has lunch which is usually a hamburger or fried chicken or fried fish. Moreover, he works till late so he has no times to exercise regularly. In addition he is a heavy smoker. As a result he has high pressure and his LDL level is high but HDL level is low. His meals are unbalanced. It is natural that cholesterol in his blood rises if he continues these daily eating habits. Increasing of cholesterol in his blood causes the hardening of the arteries. The patterns of his eating habits applies to a typical pattern of raising cholesterol in the blood. So he must reduce the rate of cholesterol in his blood. First he should quit smoking. The gases that are contained in the smoke of tobacco are soluble in the blood and oxidate LDL cholesterol. The oxidated LDL cholesterol in cells causes hardening of the arteries. Judging from this, he had better quit smoking.
Mrs. M has dinner that is a combination of snack foods and sandwiches -- especially cheese or eggs and butter or margarine. Moreover, she had two meals a day but gained 10 kilos, and her HDL and LDL level is high. If she continues in her eating habits she may not only develop hardening of the arteries but also cancer of the breast, because she has unbalanced diets, and several aunts and her mother have developed complications with various cancers including cancer of the breast. To prevent coming down with these diseases, she should have three meals a day regularly, and not have meals to be sociable. In addition, she must have a more balanced diet.
Not paying attention to their eating habits prevents the Mines from being healthy. So first they should think better of their diets. To progress in their health, what else should they do? They lack regular exercise because they are busy working. Jogging or walking activates enzymes that dissolve fats. As a result, HDL cholesterol increases, so cholesterol in the blood decreases. In sum, they had better exercise regularly -- at least once every three days. In addition, they had better cut down on foods that contain much cholesterol, for example a hamburgers, pizza, etc., and had better eat fish, tofu that contain vitamin E and vegetables that contain vitamin C, for example, carrots, green peppers, and green broccoli. Although they eat margarine and eggs that contain vitamin A, they also get fat. They should eat vegetables and other food that contain carotin, vitamin E, etc. That are anti-oxidants and which prevent LDL cholesterol from oxidating and making lumps of cells that are harden the arteries.
