Noriko Hayami writes:
Mr and Mrs Mine have very bad eating habits, because neither Mr nor Mrs M are very careful about what they eat. For instance, they usually skip breakfast on Monday through Saturday. And they eat only food containing high-fat, for example, fried food, pizza and hamburger at night. But this means that they can get only similar kinds of nutrition. And their diets are lacking in vegetables and fruits. To intake vegetables and fruits is important because these foods are full of fiber and vitamins. Second, Mr and Mrs M are not in perfect health. Mr and Mrs Mine (M) have high LDL levels . His level is 170. Her level is 165. This is major risk factor of heart disease.
In terms of health, Mr M has many problems. Mr M has high blood pressure and occasionally experiences angina chest pains. And Mr M has low levels of HDL but his LDL level is 170. Moreover, he is a heavy smoker. So I can advise him many things. First, he takes too much cholesterol and too few vitamins, fibers, grains. Cholesterol can lead to high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis. I think this is one reason why he has high blood pressure. So he should take a variety of nutrient-rich foods. He needs more than 40 different nutrients for good health. Next, he doesn't do regular exercise. But exercise can raise his HDL level, which might lower blood pressure and reduce risk of heart disease. So he should exercise as much as possible. If he can not find time to do regular exercise, I advise him to walk to the office. Furthermore, he is a heavy smoker. As we know, a heavy smoker is more likely to develop lung cancer, so he should stop smoking right now.
Suggestions to Mrs M on her diet are the same as for Mr M. First, she should avoid simple, snack and fast foods. She likes cheese, eggs, butter and margarine, however, excess intake of these is not good for her health. Cheese contains saturated fats. Saturated fats raise the level of cholesterol. Egg contains many kinds of vitamins. But it is a one of the high-cholesterol-foods. Second, she should lose weight. One cause of overweight is taking many sweet foods. To lose her weight she should reduce sweet foods. Another cause is eating foods late at night. So she should eat something lighter at an earlier time. Finally, her high level of LDL(165) is based on her bad diet so she should change her diet by eating more vegetables, fruits and fiberrich foods. In addition, having regular exercise will lower her overweight and danger of breast cancer.
Mr and Mrs M have many problems. There are many risk factors of diseases that could occur later in their lives. So they should care more about their diets. Now Mr and Mrs M don't have a good balanced diet. They don't eat three times a day. Skipping meals can lead to out-of-control hunger, often resulting in overeating. To take three meals they should get up earlier. And they have to go to sleep earlier and not eat late at night. The reason why they can't do this now is his hard work. Hard work results in much stress and a bad life style. So they have to find ways to reduce the amount of their work to protect their health.
